Tech Support Check List
The following procedures will address most problems involved in running QwikQuote:

  1. Check the system resources available to QwikQuote by selecting your Control Panel and the Performance tab. If your system resources are less than 30, free up resources by closing programs, changing Virtual Memory or Paging settings, or adding RAM or more hard drive space to your system.

  2. Check the QwikQuote Download Page to ensure that you have the latest copy of QwikQuote. Our first priority is always to fix program errors, so if you appear to have an error, there is a good chance we may have already corrected it in the free download. The specific version number of your current QwikQuote update is contained in the upper right corner of the "About QwikQuote 5.1" screen under your Help menu.

  3. Run the QwikQuote Version Checker program that is installed in the QwikQuote directory. This utility loads into your QwikQuote program window and checks the internal version numbers of all DLL and OCX sub-routines associated with QwikQuote. DLL and OCX files are often shared with other programs, and those programs may inappropriately install older versions with more recent, though incorrect, dates. If this is the problem, QwikQuote Version Checker will tell you so that you can re-name the offending files and re-install QwikQuote.  Before calling QwikQuote Tech Support, please fax a copy of your Version Checker printout to 609/ 818-1076.

  4. A surprising number of systems contain viruses. Clean your system by booting with a clean diskette and then running anti-virus software, which can be downloaded from McAfee Corporation's BBS. Running anti-virus software on an infected system without a clean boot disk will not remove the virus.

3050

Run-time error '3050' after doing a node install.  Couldn't lock file.
You are probably having a network rights problem;   QwikQuote requires the appropriate network rights in order to write data to certain areas of your server.   For Novell, make sure that the rights on the QwikQuote directory and subdirectories include read, write, create, erase, modify and scan rights.

128

When you convert a 16 bit (QwikQuote 4.5) database into a 32 bit database you will not be able to read it in a 16 bit program and will get this error.

20007

This error can occur when every column is set to 'None' or if your QQUOTE32.INI is severaly truncated.

The path has changed or is no longer available. Go to your C:\Windows\qquote32.ini file. See [file location] quote_save= This is where QQ is looking for your file. Change to what you now want it to be.

Frequent Tech Support Questions                                  Back to Top

How do I export QwikQuote to the Sant ProposalMaster software?
Click here for a complete tutorial.

I use the United Parcel Service software, and it seems to conflict with QwikQuote.
QwikQuote version 5.1.9 and above use files from Microsoft Visual
Studio 6 Service Pack 3.  All the QwikQuote database DLLs were changed which makes them incompatible with the olrder files used by  the UPS Online Office software.   Two update packages from Microsof will bring all your files to the current version.    If you're in Windows 98, you should not need the first of these two packages. They're available at:

http://www.qwikquote.com/files/updates/dcom95.exe
                                              and
http://www.qwikquote.com/files/updates/mdac_typ.exe

Save each of these to your hard drive and run each one individually.  DCOM98
is installed by default in Windows 98 computers (according to Microsoft) and
so you shouldn't need DCOM95 for those computers.  MDAC requires DCOM and
will not install without it so we've put both on our server. All the database driver files get replaced when you install these files and on my test system the UPS software ran without errors.

I have problems with the DAO2535.TLB file or general database errors.
Download and install the files listed in the question above.

How do I create fields and link to user-defined fields in my contact manager?
QwikQuote 5.1 added the ability to create fields and link to more contact manager fields.  This names of the contact manager fields and documented procedures can be downloaded  in a PDF document by clicking here.    Requires free Adobe Acrobat Reader to read.

I have "xxxxx" through my cost price and pricing levels.  How do I get rid of it?
You've inadvertently entered "Customer Mode", a mode that allows you to work with QwikQuote without disclosing pricing information to someone looking over your shoulder. Go to the Price List, and press the F7 key to exit. If you have not previously entered a password, you will not need a password to clear Customer Mode.

If I quote annual support and I need to prorate it based on remaining days in the year, how can I do that?
Click in the price column, click the Edit Key twice (F2), then type this equation:             = Days * (Price / 365)

My Excel spreadsheet will not import correctly.
QwikQuote uses a Microsoft tool for importing Excel spreadsheets, but we have found that some spreadsheets require certain fixes before importing.

General Guide lines

One field per column and one item per row.
An item should be in a row by itself, and each column should contain just one field. For instance, your spreadsheet should be a matrix of products by row and attributes (description, cost, manufacturer, etc.) by column.

No blank spaces in the information
Make sure there are no blank spaces in the body of your information (Highlight your database, and use the Edit | Replace function in Excel to replace all blank cells with ‘0’.)

excel1.gif (8202 bytes)

All data visible
All data must be visible in each cell. Highlight your database, and use the auto fit function to adjust the cell width.

Tricks for trouble Excel imports

1.   Try copying the data and pasting it onto a new spreadsheet, then saving.

2.   Make sure your part numbers are set to the "Number" format.   Highlight the column, then choose Format | Cells | Number.  The other settings (decimal places, negative numbers) do not matter.

excel3.gif (7876 bytes)

3.   Try changing the order of your items.  Highlight your database and choose Data | Sort in Excel.

excel4.gif (4558 bytes)

4.   Try splitting the information into two different price sheets, then importing one into the other.
